During 2024 I worked on paintings on wood panels and on aluminum, as well, sculptures with found materials. My painting Mother Tree from 2022 was acquired by the National Capital Commission (Official Residences). In the summer I participated in a residency on Halls Island, which is located on Koshlang Lake in the Haliburton Highlands. While at the residency I read the book The Light Eaters by Zoë Schlanger; the book considers the intelligence of plants. Many of my paintings on wood panels consider plant knowing in terms of growth patterns and response to built environments. There were two main avenues of inquiry with my paintings on aluminum: 1. pyrocumulus or fire clouds and 2, the notion of breath. Breath is explored as a symbiotic relationship between plants and the atmosphere; the reflective quality of the aluminum offering a sense of exchange.
